What is a crashpad?
Crashpads are prevalent throughout the entire aviation industry. You can find them at a number of airline hubs as well as at many military bases where TDYs are commonplace. In its basic form, crashpads are a simple place to sleep aside from a hotel, but we do things the Horizon Heights way. We make it an unforgettable experience.
How is staying in an Altus crashpad legal?
According to the JTR, U.S. Service members have the right to choose their lodging, so long as the lodging is at or under the budgeted rate ($89/day in Altus). The reference for this in the JTR is table 2-14, specifically row 6.
How can I get around the Altus Crashpad MFR?
You need to get an exception to policy, referred to as an ETP. Since the MFR was published back in October of 2023, the ETP policy has changed a number of times. Please contact us for the latest updates on the ETP process. This should also be spelled out in a welcome email from Altus. What we have seen work without fail is having a dependent/pet accompany you to training.
How does billing work?
We make it easy. We send a Quickbooks invoice at the start of each month and it’s a fill and go process using your GTC. If you need help with your DTS we are happy to assist on that front as well, but it is really no more headache than staying in any hotel as far as paperwork goes. Per the JTR, we match the government rate at $89/day.
What if I graduate early or get extended?
Not a problem at all. The room is yours until you leave, even if someone else is scheduled to move in. Let that be our problem, and you focus on your training! If you are curious how we deal with situations like that on the management side, please see below!
What if the house I want to stay in is full?
We always have availability, and we will get you into the house of your choosing, but we may ask you to wait to few days while another student finishes up. In the mean time we have a vast network of crashpad owners in agreement that we will provide transitory housing to students in this position for a few days in another available home. In the event that you fall in love with the house you move into initially, you are more than welcome to stay! The room is yours until you leave!
